If you've heard anything about the Google Pixel over the past 2 years, It's that the Google Pixel has one of the best smartphone cameras out there period. Ever since the original Pixel back in 2016 people have been raving about how good the pictures are, one the Pixel line up. Admittedly it is impressive how much Google has been able to accomplish with the single camera on their phones. The thing to remember is that the hardware isn't that special, I imagine the sensors used in the Google Pixel are your run of the mill flagship grade image sensors. Where Google sprinkles some pixie dust on your images is in the software. Google works wonders on your image with it's amazing software and lets be real here its Google were talking about so its probably some form of AI. Google's amazing software and it's own Visual Core chips have produced some amazing shots. Looks like Apple just decided to steal the limelight

In that was a mixed bag of a keynote Apple released 3 new iPhones, All iterative evolutions of their predecessors, The iPhone X. Being an s upgrade the phones look remarkably similar to the iPhone X even the iPhone XR. With every s model release Apple struggles to differentiate and to convince us that these new models are worth getting, Which is why they often release new colours and internal upgrades. This year to no ones surprise the iPhones that were released looked exactly like the iPhone X released last year and most of the improvements were under the hood specifically with the camera. If you've been watching Apple keynotes for the past few years you'll notice that when Apple is showing off their camera they love too focus on how amazing the camera hardware is. From the iPhone 5s' Dual tone flash to the 6's OIS to the 6s' enlarged pixel size to the iPhone 7's dual camera. You get the idea Apple loves camera hardware. But this time around Apple just glossed over the camera specs and then talked about software. More specifically AI that makes your photos look better. Sound familiar? It should. Apple released what it calls Smart HDR, which is a fancy way of saying that the HDR is even better and can handle dynamics in a much better way. Even a regular photo now employs AI to help you get the best shot possible. Dejavu right? It doesn't even stop there. Apple has developed the A12 Bionic chip with machine learning in mind, With the Neural Engine now having 8 cores. We know that Apple is at the peak of it's chip manufacturing game so you can bet your bottom dollar that these chips will perform as advertised. More over Apple over the previous year has demonstrated it's mastery over running Neural Network algorithms off of it's A11 Bionic chip through the beautiful implementation of FaceID.Apple has a history of nailing software and hardware integration, and this sounds like the perfect marriage of AI and hardware to give you the perfect shot. Till now many a company has tried to being AI into the camera app trying to follow in Google's foot steps. But in my opinion Google's and Apple's approach of tweaking stuff and using AI in the background is so much more better than your phone just telling you that you're taking a picture of a plant and then tweaking some knob for the sake of it. If Apple can pull this off Google's camera reign might be coming to an end as the competition catches up to Google's AI
