Ai, one of the holy grails of computing, the ability to give a computer the ability to think like a human and to carry out tasks without explicitly being programmed to do so. of late AI has become one of those fancy words that gets thrown around a lot , like bitcoin or blockchain or internet of things.
Heres the thing about AI, It either works or it doesn't. Theres no it kinda works with AI. if it works its the most amazing thing ever if it doesn't its a massive annoyance. Huawei started off this trend with the Mate10. Huawei claimed that the Huawei Mate10 was smart enough to recognise what it was looking at and adjust camera settings accordingly. A great idea truly but in real life you'd be hard pressed to find a significant improvement in camera performance due to its AI features. Sure this is a handy feature not much annoyances here.
At MWC 2018 the Asus Zenfone 5, which by the way is. shameless iPhone X ripoff, came out with similar claims. The camera can recognise that its looking at a cat or a dog or whatever you point it at ( great?). But the photos appear mediocre at best. But what really got me and the inspiration for this post was AI charging - Wait what? You read that right Asus implemented AI charging on their flagship phones. Apparently the phone learns your habits and charges up till 80% while you're sleeping and then goes upto a 100% just before you wake up. Now this counts as an annoyance feature. What if you wake up earlier cause you have an interview but your phones only at 80%? I feel like this is going to be on of those "smart" features that end up spamming you with notifications.
Oppo goes even one step further with AI beauty. Really! Oppo claims that it will use AI to give you the perfect selfie everytime. Looking at the photos from the Opposite F5 I think that it looks exactly like your run of the mill beauty filter on any random app off the App Store. People We need to stop saying AI

The SmartPhone Is Gravitating Towards AI
AI has been on smartphones for a long time and they used to be in the background making sure that everything ran along smoothly. From analysing your usage patterns to give you information before you ask for it to predicting your search results AI has been with us. But now that AI is art the forefront of mobile technology OEMs feel like they should AI-ify everything. Google is the first to do this but I'm going to give Google a pass on this one cause their AI is the best in the field. So Google really started pushing AI onto their phones and used it as a marketing tool something which Apple was lacking in at the time and credit where credit is due Google nailed the AI aspect of things. Eyeing the success of Google other OEMs have started pushing AI onto their phones as well.
